In 2014 the family farm jumped into the world of renewable energy - building an on farm Anaerobic Digester, turning our cow’s poo into electricity
Since commissioning in 2014, we have not looked back on our decision to create a more sustainable, self sufficient way of farming.
What is an AD plant? Essentially it is a large tank which works in the same way as a cows stomach. We feed the tank each day with a mix of farm manures, excess waste and grown feed produced on farm, which over time brakes down to create methane gas. This gas is captured and using a clever engine we convert it into electric for use on farm and well as supplying the national grid.
As well as electric, the AD plant provides us with a great fertiliser which we put back onto our grass and arable land. This enables us to operate more sustainably and subsequently be far more self-sufficient.
